Claude Pro vs Max: Which Plan Should You Buy?
A practical comparison of Claude Pro and Claude Max (5x and 20x) usage limits, pricing, and who each plan actually fits, so you don't overspend on the wrong tier.
Anthropic offers a few paid tiers above Claude’s free plan, and the naming can be confusing at first glance: Claude Pro, and Claude Max, which itself comes in two usage levels — commonly referred to as 5× and 20× relative to Pro. Picking the right one mostly comes down to how much you actually use Claude day to day, not which plan sounds more premium. Here’s a practical breakdown.
Claude Pro: the mid-tier for regular individual use
Claude Pro sits above the free tier and is aimed at people who use Claude regularly but not constantly — daily writing, research, coding help, or general assistant tasks that don’t require running dozens of long sessions back to back. Compared to the free tier, Pro typically offers:
- Substantially higher usage limits before you hit a rate cap
- Access to Claude’s more capable models rather than being restricted to lighter ones
- Priority access during high-traffic periods
For most individual users — students, professionals doing writing or analysis, developers using Claude for occasional coding help — Pro comfortably covers a normal day’s usage without hitting limits.
Claude Max: built for heavy, sustained usage
Claude Max exists for people who run into Pro’s limits regularly — for example, developers running long agentic coding sessions, researchers processing large documents repeatedly, or anyone whose workflow involves near-continuous use of Claude throughout the day. Max is offered at two usage levels:
- Max 5× — roughly five times the usage allowance of Pro, for users who outgrow Pro but don’t need the highest tier.
- Max 20× — roughly twenty times the usage allowance of Pro, aimed at the heaviest individual users and power workflows.
The multiplier is a useful mental model: if you’re regularly running out of Pro’s allowance partway through your day, 5× likely solves it; if you’re running extended agentic or automation workloads that would blow through 5× too, 20× is the tier built for that.
How to tell which one you actually need
A simple way to decide: track whether you’re hitting Claude’s usage limits under your current plan (or the free tier) before your day is done.
- Never hit a limit, use Claude a few times a day → the free tier or Pro is likely enough.
- Occasionally hit Pro’s limit, especially on heavy days → Max 5× is the natural upgrade.
- Routinely exhaust Pro or even Max 5×, especially with long coding or agentic sessions → Max 20× is built for this usage pattern.
There’s no penalty for starting lower and upgrading later — a gift card for a higher tier next month costs the same either way, so it’s reasonable to start with Pro and move up only once you’ve confirmed you actually need more.
Buying either plan with crypto

Redeeming on your own account either way
Regardless of which tier you buy, the gift card is redeemed on your own Anthropic account at claude.ai — we never sell or share accounts, and we never ask for your Claude login. You keep full control of your own conversation history and billing relationship with Anthropic; we only ever provide the gift card itself.
A few honest caveats
- We are an independent reseller and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anthropic. “Claude,” “Pro,” and “Max” are used here only to describe the plans our gift cards are priced to cover.
- Usage limits and exact multipliers for Pro and Max are set by Anthropic and can change over time; the guidance above reflects the general shape of the tiers rather than a fixed guarantee.
- Crypto payments are irreversible once confirmed, so refunds apply only to orders paid for but never delivered — see our refund policy for details.
Still not sure?
If you’re on the fence, Pro is the safer starting point for most people — you can always upgrade to Max later once you know your actual usage pattern. Head to checkout to buy either plan with crypto, or check our FAQ for more on delivery, supported coins, and refunds.
